February is almost over and the weather has been cold and messy, to sit down with a good book at the end of the day is a delight. “Pam’s Pick” this week is a comic masterpiece. “Insane City” by Dave Barry, this book will keep you laughing from beginning to end. This is just what you need to cheer up a dreary day.
New Fiction:
“Catching Fireflies” by Sherry Woods, this is book 9 in the Sweet Magnolia series. When a teenager’s life is destroyed by a bully, the Sweet Magnolias bring the town together to ensure that the student’s future isn’t ruined.
“The Blood Gospel” by James Rollins & Rebecca Cantrell, this is the first book in the Order of the Sanguines series. This is a gothic tale about an ancient order and the hunt for a miraculous book known only as Blood Gospel. At the end of the book is a warning: some books should never be found, never opened. But now it is too late.
“Beautiful Disaster” by Jamie McGuire, this is a romance novel. When good girl Abby goes off to college she meets bad boy Travis. He tricks her in to a simple bet. A bet with big stakes. If Travis loses he must remain abstinent for a month, if Abby loses she must live in his apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, both have met their match.
“Another Piece of My Heart” by Jane Green, this is a story that explores the complications of a woman marrying into a ready-made family, and the true meaning of motherhood. When Andi meets Ethan she knows he is the man for her. Divorced with two girls Ethan is a good husband. But his daughters see Andi as an obstacle that threatens everything. Can she gain their trust?
“The Wrath of Angels” by John Connolly, this is a Charlie Parker thriller. The wreckage of a plane is discovered with no bodies. No such plane has ever been reported missing. The plane has a list of names who have struck a deal with the devil. Charlie knows more than most about the nature of evil and fears that his own name may be on the list.
New Christian Fiction:
“Safe in His Arms” by Colleen Coble, this is book two in the Under Texas Stars series. Margaret’s father wants his daughter to have a husband and a family of her own. But she has given up on that dream, until the new foreman comes along. When she overhears a conversation that links him to a gang of bank robbers she is worried. But how could this be true of a man so kind and who talks so convincingly about his faith?
“A Most Unsuitable Match” by Stephanie Grace Whitson, this story of two people who find themselves on a steamboat journey that are opposites in every way except in wondering if their path will ever cross again. This book is in Large Print.
New Mystery:
“The Bughouse Affair” by Marcia Muller and Bill Pronzini, this is a Carpenter and Quincannon mystery. Sabina and her partner John are involved in the hunt for a ruthless pickpocket and a slippery housebreaker. The two cases eventually connect in a surprising way.
New Biographies:
“The Longest Fight: In the Ring with Joe Gans, Boxing’s first African American Champion” by William Gildea this is the story of Joe Gans. He was the first African American Boxing Champion in 1906.
“Open Heart” by Elie Wiesel, this is this reflections of Wiesel’s life, after heart surgery. This is his account of hope and despair, of love, regrets and abiding faith.

Special Story Time: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey©present Fully Charged, Gold Edition Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Ambassadors of Laughter. The clowns will be here to do this very special story time, Friday, March 1, at 10am to present: “If I Ran the Circus by Dr. Seuss.” This will be a great treat for all children. Ringling Bros. will be in Murray April 4-7 and kids 12 and under can get a free ticket by reading five books and getting their cards stamped with five elephant stamps.
